Why Hand Setting
Stone setting is where jewellery gains its soul. Machine setting has its place in high-volume work; for trade and small-run pieces we set by hand. Our setters align each stone, form prongs or beads, and secure the stone so it sits flush and won’t loosen with wear. The result is a finish that meets luxury standards and a piece you can wear with confidence. After casting we prepare the seats from your CAD model and set the stones you’ve chosen through our diamond and gemstone supply, all in the same building in the Diamond District.
Setting Styles We Offer
Prong: Classic claws that hold the stone from above; ideal for solitaires and centre stones. Pavé and micro pavé: Small stones set close together with minimal metal visible; we do true hand pavé for even spacing and security. Channel: Stones set in a channel between two metal rails; clean lines, no prongs. Bezel: Metal wraps the stone’s girdle; protective and modern. Invisible: Stones appear to float with minimal metal; requires precision. We’ll recommend the best style for your design and stone type during your trade briefing.
Diamonds & Coloured Stones
We set diamonds (natural and lab-grown) and coloured gemstones, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, and more. Each stone type has slightly different requirements for seat depth and pressure; our setters adjust so the stone is secure without risk of damage. After setting we check each stone for movement and polish the metal so the piece is ready for final finishing.
Quality and Inspection
Every set piece is inspected before it moves to polishing. We check for loose stones, uneven heights and any metal that might catch. If something isn’t right we fix it before the piece leaves the bench. That level of care is standard in our process, we’d rather take the time than ship a piece that doesn’t meet our name.
Repairs and Re-Tipping
We also offer stone setting for repairs: retipping worn prongs, replacing lost stones, and tightening loose settings. If you have an existing piece that needs attention, bring it in or send clear photos; we’ll advise on the work and timeline. NYC clients can drop by our studio at 37 W 47th St by appointment.
